Folks,
it has been about 3weeks since the drop of Record Label YSG’s;
Olanrewaju Ogunmefun a.k.a Vector Tha Viper’s Album, I’ve been jamming it ever
since then and if I was to summarize this whole review into one word it’ll be…
*clears throat* ONDUN!!. But then this write up will be useless so… Ya!
INTRO 1972:
The
track is an intro to the album but Vector also made clear that the album was
his official intro into the Nigerian Rap Game, He mentioned how he has come to
change the rap in Nigeria and I think so far, he is doing a good job. There
weren’t too many Bars in the emotional song, but it made good musical sense. I
give it a 3 Stars Rating.
JAWONLE:
This
track show’s a little of vector’s commercial rap ability. Even though the
chorus was done In Yoruba language, vector still dropped his ill bars and
flowed perfectly with the commercial beat. Jawonle meaning “left them behind”
featured upcoming vocalist Muno and was produced by Da Piano. I rate it 3
Stars.
BORN LEADER:
I
think we all know the hit single born leader, one of the hottest tracks off the
album and also one of the hottest rap songs in Nigeria right now, why? This
track has it all; it’s a typical rap song with sick Punchlines and wordplay,
but it’s also a club banger being seriously jammed in clubs Plus, its features
the famous Jamaican artiste Mavado, I need not say more. I rate it complete 5
stars.
WE MADE OH:
This
is arguable the greatest rap song ever made in Nigeria, and probably the rap
song with the most bars ever, I mean, almost all the lines in the song has a
puncline or wordplay, Including the Hook, plus it can totally be jammed
anywhere, the beat was made by Del B. It’s a great track and I give it a
complete 5 star rating. Ondun!
HUSTLE:
Hustle
which featured very inspirational Nigerian musician Sound Sultan, is a very
enlightening song, it passes a across a very encouraging message, it’s a very
inspirational song. And yes, sound sultan killed his verse, the collaboration
was a successful one as the song came out great. I rate it 4 stars.
DON’T ENVY ME:
Not
the best track off the album, don’t envy me featured Rockstedy, it sends a
warning message to haters. Don’t get me wrong it has some nice lines but I
don’t think it’s up to the standard of a warning track, one would expect deeper
hardcore bars. I rate it 2 stars… and yeah, I know how ironic this is.*shrugs*
SHAYE:
English
translation meaning “Enjoy Life”, shaye is another track with a Yoruba chorus
and that little swerve to the commercial side, I would leave the genre under
Hip-Hop tho’. The track has vector talking about enjoying and relaxing after
the work and pain. Average track, I give it 3 stars.
I LIKE GIRLS:
Every
artiste has a track where they talk about girls right? Well, I can tell you
there’s nothing cliché about this track. I was impressed by vector’s uniqueness
of such a common subject, I guess he really does like girls. He delivered
sexual lines in a playful manner. It’s an interesting song with a mad beat by
the whiz beat maker Del B. I rate it 4 stars.
YOU BAD:
You bad is a love rap track for that special girl, Vec
dropped good lines saying sweet things about the girl while dissing other
girls. The beat was by Da Piano, It’s a typical love rap track but still makes
sense. 3 stars.
FOLLOW ME DEY GO:
The
nice reggae beat made by Da Piano gives the track and international spice, not
sure of the message but I think it’s about his infatuation with a groupie. It
had really nice bars and vector flowed on that reggae level, made it kind of
unique. Good song. 3 Stars.
NA YOU:
This
one is the romantic track of the album, it featured Upcoming vocalist Muno. It
makes more sense than the first love rap song on the album, this one has deeper
lines, talking about marriage and stuff. A really nice song plus it has a
catchy chorus, 4 stars.
LIKE PLAY:
Like
play play, very nice chorus. One thing I really like about this track is;
Vector sang the chorus, sang the hook too, it was all vector, cray. Of all the
tracks about girls, this one had the most bars, it is also the last track about
girls. Vector killed the track from the first to the last second. 4 stars.
ALONE:
One
Word; DEEP. … This track says it all, Handling the fame, money, groupies,
decision making, criticism, hate, being misunderstood and so on. It’s a sad
song that’ll touch anybody, and vector chose the best vocalist for the song,
Emmsong, who really fit into the track with his voice. A great song, 4 Stars.
V9 CYPHER:
When
i got the album I went straight to this track cos of the feature, I wasn’t too
disappointed too, but I expected more from the “legendary” (Sarcasm) mode 9.
Mode 9 flowed but vector totally killed it, believe me, listening to this track
you’ll pay more attention to vector. To be totally honest tho, one would expect
more from this kinda cypher. 3 Stars.
SO FE KU:
Now
this is what I call a Raw Rap Track, The message is clear from the name of the
track to the chorus. Vector came with cray bars, marking his territory and all,
telling everyone he is not to be fucked with and what will happen to anyone who
fucks with him. Straight up hardcore territorial Rap. 4 Stars.
ONYEONLU:
Featuring
Badman Floss, Onyeonlu is one of my favorite new tracks off the album. If
you’re looking for a good Hip Hop/Rap song with bars and a good chorus, this is
definitely your track. It’s a good song that’s going to get a lot of plays on
the Radio. 4 stars.
FEAR NO EVIL:
This
track already has the most plays on my iTunes. Of all the new tracks, I believe
this is the best rap track off the whole album, the spice of reggae, the beat,
the hardcore deep bars that vector dropped, talking about how he was
discouraged from doing rap but went ahead and proved how good he is. it’s a
great track that was very well produced. I rate it 5 Stars.
AMEN:
Amen,
the track with the deepest lyrics, containing a lot of prayer lines, Vector
seemed a little sober while delivering his lyrics. And close to the end came a
line where vector mentioned people he lost, Sad. This track has so much prayer
lines it can be jammed in churches. 4 Stars.
ANGELI:
I don’t
this hit track needs a review, We’ve all heard this mad jam featuring 9ice. 4 Stars.
SKIT:
The
skit was a short rap and an intro to the next track.
RORA:
Oshamo!
Rora featuring shank is a cray jam, I can’t enough of the chorus. Vector came
through with really nice playful lines and shank you had a verse to himself didn’t
fail to deliver. Of all the songs that sound commercial on the album this one
is the best, you just have to nod to this jam. 5 Stars.
WA SERE:
Wa
sere the last track of the album served as an outro, the fact that it was the
shortest track of the album didn’t stop vector from delivering ill lines. The track
talks bout how vector shouldn’t let all the fame get into his and remember how
he started from nothing. This track is 2 minute 59 seconds of Genius. 5 Stars.
